Engineering Manager

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical design projects. This role involves organizing, evaluating, and directing activities related to fluid power circuit design, manifold development, electrical control systems, and integrated fluid power solutions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hydraulics and proven leadership experience, ensuring designs are delivered on time and meet the highest quality standards.

Location: Portland, OR – HPS Headquarters

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of engineers across manifold design, electronic controls, and industrial custom power unit disciplines.
  • Assign, monitor, and balance individual workloads to optimize project schedules and maintain capacity management.
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and professional development to team members.
  • Organize and direct design activities including fluid power circuit layouts, manifold design, and electrical control system development.
  • Ensure thorough review of designs, documentation, and specifications, supporting manufacturing and testing activities.
  • Promote continuous improvement in engineering workflows, documentation, and data management.
  • Develop, deploy, and ensure compliance with engineering standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager/Director to set and refine engineering goals, processes, and priorities.
  • Work closely with Sales, Manufacturing, Procurement, Quality, and external suppliers/customers to meet project requirements.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration to align engineering output with customer and business needs.
  • Oversee the team’s usage of HyDraw, MDtools, Autodesk Vault, Inventor, and AutoCAD.
  • Collaborate with IT on software/hardware upgrades, deployments, and license renewals to ensure optimal workflow.
  • Track and drive on-time delivery of engineering designs and the resolution of Engineering Change Requests.
  • Champion initiatives to improve design quality, reduce lead times, and enhance overall efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (from an accredited 4-year college).

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in hydraulics, fluid power, or a closely related field.
  • Proven track record of managing and developing engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and refining engineering standards and processes.
  • Certified Fluid Power Specialist (CFPS) or International Fluid Power Society (IFPS) certification.
  • Familiarity with HyDraw, MDtools, Autodesk Vault, Inventor, and AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding of fluid power, manifolds, and electrical control systems.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent delegation and mentoring abilities.
  • Effective communicator capable of aligning cross-functional stakeholders.

CNC Operator

CNC Operators are responsible for the setup, operation, and daily maintenance of CNC Machinery to manufacture hydraulic manifolds and components. They independently set up and operate CNC machines using modular fixtures and tooling to produce hydraulic manifolds and components. Navigate and function within software to follow electronic production schedules. Review and interpret work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, material specifications, orthographic drawings, and hardware specification sheets to manufacture machined hydraulic components.

Schedule: Monday to Thursday (Four 10-hour day shifts). Overtime available.

Job Duties Include:

  • Perform CNC setup functions including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculate requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs
  • Assist in troubleshooting, development, and optimization of programming, machining, and tool management processes to ensure manufacturing processes support and produce components in accordance with defined engineering specifications and maximize productivity
  • Use measuring instruments to Inspect and record dimensions of machined parts referencing geometric dimensions and tolerances (GDT)
  • Setup, measure, monitor, and replace cutting tools
  • Monitor and refill machine lubricants and fluids

Job Requirements:

  • Three to five years of experience as a CNC Vertical and Horizontal Setup Machinist
  • Program, tooling, and process prove-out experience on CNC milling machines
  • Proficiency in setup, operation, and scheduling of CNC machining centers
  • Ability to follow standardized processes, communicate and function independently within a team environment

The Outside Salesperson is responsible for proactively contacting customers and prospective customers to solicit sales of Fluid Power products and services. They manage a large group of opportunities intended to increase revenue and provide world-class customer service.
